Fireproof movie trailer

Dealing with issues of unfaithfulness, pornography, lust, unforgiveness, grudges and anger, Fireproof doesn’t sugar-coat the realities of marriage. The narrative shows the slow and humbling process that true love has to take to restore wholeness. Not everyone has the courage to take that path.

Caleb, a firefighter and hero in his community is far from a hero to his wife of seven years, Catherine. How two people with such intelligence and dedication on their jobs could be so incapable of solving their marriage problems, shows that there is more to building a happy marriage than meets the eye.

The soldier is above the weather

Okay – maybe not above tsunamis and hurricanes. (Although I'm sure if he knows they're coming, he'll be far better prepared for them than most people.)

But the truth is you will probably never see a soldier using an umbrella. Or in briefs and his shirt off in a scorching desert. You'll never see one sipping hot chocolate and cuddled up in his blanket on a snowy day.

In the army, soldiers learn and believe that they are above the weather — which means the weather does not dictate what they can or cannot do. It can't stop them.

It's 19ºF in Houston today (-7ºC). Not the coldest place on earth, but surely you don't see ice on the roads of Houston, Texas very often.

That means a lot of people are not going to work today; students will miss school; appointments will be postponed; church meetings will be less attended. All on account of the weather. And that happens everywhere, not just here.

Most people will jump at anything that can provide them with an excuse not to do what they have to. Most people will complain and whine when their routine is disrupted. Most people will happily just curl in a corner and say, "I would do it, if it only weren't ________." (Fill in the blank with excuse.)

But soldiers are not most people.

Thank God for them.

Brooklyn, NY: Cars stuck in snow, buses aren't running – but a few brave soldiers remember they have legs and can walk to work. What an opportunity to stand out from the crowd...
